Test-Enhanced Learning: Taking Memory Tests Improves Long-Term Retention
Henry L. Roediger & Jeffrey D. Karpicke
~Participants were 300 Undergrad students
~ All students first studied a passage.
~ After studying, one group spent the next three sessions taking three different recall tests. The second group spent the next three sessions re-studing the material.
~All groups then took a final test either 5 mins, 2 days, or 1 week later.
~ Results found that those who re-studied did better on the test taken 5 mins later. However, the group that took a recall test did better on both the 2 day and week later tests.
