How can the testing effect help you study?
Here is how you can use the testing effect to your advantage.
~ If you have an exam to prepare for, first study the information that you will be tested on. It is best to start studying several days, if not weeks, in advanced.
~After a period of studying, test yourself on the material. Try to write down and recall as much information as you can. Do this without referring to your notes. Also, make sure that you do not give up right away if you cannot immediately recall a piece of information. Sometimes the right answer will just come to you if you think back for a few minutes.
~ Check your answers, and correct anything that you got wrong.
~By testing yourself, you should be able to remember more information come exam day. Also, testing yourself prior to an exam will help reduce the amount of stress you feel during the exam since you will have already had practice recalling the information!
